Top Carrot is a health food restaurant on the Dutch side of the dual country island of Sint Maarten/St. Martin. Located in the tourist town of Simpson Bay, this restaurant has a wide variety on their menu, from vegan and vegetarian food to healthy fish dishes. For this review, I’ll just be looking at the plant-based food served. Top Carrot has a good location, being halfway between the airport and the cruise port town of Philipsburg. You can see my full vegan guide to Philipsburg here. I hope you find this Top Carrot St Maarten Vegan review informative!
Top Carrot SXM
You will find Top Carrot SXM in a shopping complex of restaurants, bars and shops in the bay town of Simpson Bay, St. Maarten. If you aren’t familiar with Simpson Bay, it is a protected bay where many cruisers will anchor. St. Maarten is very popular in the sailboat charter business due to this protected bay. That and many other reasons.
Top Carrot not only has a restaurant, but an attached shop selling all kinds of goods you can think of. Many of the items you will find in the shop fall in line with the ideals of restaurant, providing holistic styled merchandise. If you are looking for some CBD oil, quartz, yoga outfits or something similar, you’ll be able to find it here at Top Carrot.
My Vegan Experience
Top Carrot is one of the few restaurants on the island that I visited multiple times during my stay. That should tell you something right there. This restaurant serves health food. Not only producing great eats, this spot also has a full coffee bar, juice bar, and plenty of smoothie options. It is so nice to have a fresh juice on a hot Caribbean day. I highly recommend their “Ginger Breeze” fresh natural juice. The juice comes in a crushed ice form, making it almost like a snowcone of ginger. This was phenomenal. You can definitely taste how fresh that ginger is.
For my food options, there are several different options for vegans and vegetarians. Although there are different options, all entrees seemed to have a general theme of the same ingredients. The menu consists mostly of Mediterranean cuisine, which is great and healthy. Throughout the several times I visited this restaurant, I always got their Mediterranean platter in some form. It is offered as a stand alone platter, served with falafel, hummus, avocado, peppers, eggplant, olives, and feta cheese. If you’d like this dish vegan just request no cheese. This was delicious and just what I was in the mood for.
This platter is also served in a pita, with falafel, lettuce, tomato and hummus. You will get a smaller amount of food with the pita though. They also offer a vegetarian wrap, served with pesto, avocado, falafel, tomato, roasted peppers and greens. Everything I had at Top Carrot was top notch. Be sure to ask about specials in addition to the regular menu. One day, my partner got their special eggplant lasagna(vegetarian) and was blown away by how amazing it was.
Overall, I highly recommend Top Carrot SXM to anyone if the Simpson Bay area. Vegan and vegetarian options are fairly limited in this part of the island, so Top Carrot may be your best bet. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend sitting outside to soak up that gorgeous Caribbean sun and enjoy fresh, wholesome meals. I found the pricing at Top Carrot to be fairly priced as well. This is a great spot to come with omnivores because there is something for everybody to eat.
